Dessert Moguls

Bushes come back to the White House lawn like swallows to Capistrano or roaches after atomic testing. Madmen and dictator’s sons scowl blandly on tele-prompters across the land. Just as sure as lights at Christmas, another Rocky movie will make its way to the screen. Never has a movie been made that I had such intent not to see. Yes, I loved Rocky back in the day. It was a charming, inspirational story. And then came II..and III, still a nice story. But then it got preachy and political and wasn’t just about the underdog pug from the City of Brotherly Love.

Incarnates
Sons of Bushes and Jihadist, dictators and swallows come back madder than hell. They have a bone to pick. They have something to prove, or a morality lesson to give. Creed (2015) rings around Rocky training Apollo Creed’s son—Apollo, the guy the Russian incarnate killed in the ring, circa Rocky IV. The Italian Stallion has worn many hats, but none fit like the felt brim hat he looked in for his locker combination.
Each fighter comes back with renewed vigor, that spirit which propelled Rocky to go the distance with the guy that gave a nobody “chump” a chance, because America is the land of opportunity. Jeb is going to hit them where it hurts…or is that Trump. Jeb is going to try to tackle the can of worms his young brother opened. Remember, their father loosened the lid, George unscrewed it, and his brother is going to cap it and save America. A family affair. There must be an easier way.

Acting across America
Characters out-live scripts and life becomes improve. Rocky Bal-bo-a climbs in the ring and sits still as Mickey cuts his eye. He stands blindly bellowing Adrienne as media frenzies by. Or he stands outside the ring training generation Z. Politicians speak in pundits. They act up to the roll call at the convention and then the masks come off, the mutations that society has born.

Landing on their feet
Worlds get scarier each time actors convene. Problems renew themselves and characters come back with a vengeance—like buses and religious fanatics, like albatrosses and political pragmatics. All the pugilists, pacifists, or ventriloquists come back for more. Anyone can get a hand in it, the fight for justice and tranquility. And when carriers abscond from their decks aircraft into the Persian Gulf, and the night desert seemed old and used, Jeb hears a strike of a bubbling crude—black gold, Iraqi tea
